About Me

My name is Kayin aka Simple.Takes.Work

I’ve been in Marketing and E-Commerce for over a decade, both in the frame of a 9-5, and for myself as a business owner/entrepreneur.

I’ve been in Community Building and Management for nearly 2 decades. From my first introduction to online forums as a young teenager, to now managing Reddit communities and Discord servers.

Through this experience, I’ve gained a true passion for seeing different communities grow and thrive.

Communities built on passion are always the most engaging. You get to see people show up as the most authentic version of themselves through the love of their shared interest.

Why I Started [ Simple Takes Work ]

As a serial entrepreneur, I have tried (and failed) a LOT of different businesses.

Along the way I learned a TON.

The most important lesson didn’t sink-in until I had invested over a year into a single idea, yet still ended up pivoting.

The next pivot I was back at zero.

Every single business I had worked on to that point led to restarting back from zero.

The hardest part?

Trying to recreate a sense of engagement around the business.

I’ve been doing it alone, so what that means is my time for each segment of the business is limited.

  • Researching the audience
  • Developing the product
  • Building the sales channel
  • Designing assets

By the time I got to social media and creating content…

It became more of a game of trying to produce for every platform.

Trying to just exist everywhere.

I had been taught that I needed to “be everywhere” if I wanted to be seen.

So I approached my content with that in mind.

My time was limited, so instead of creating content catered to the audiences of each platform and getting to go deep with the niche…

I was on a path of creating single assets and just re-sizing them for the different platforms and putting out content just for the sake of posting.

There was no strategy.

There was no logic.

I was posting for the sake of it because someone had told me that I needed to post 10x/day on this platform, and 3x/day on this other platform, and then magically I would see traffic and success by doing that.

Obviously that didn’t work!

I wouldn’t be here today telling you this story if it did.

All that led to was a case of burnout and a growing hate for the business I used to be so passionate about.

What I did notice though… I wasn’t the only one going through that experience. There were dozens and hundreds of other small business owners experiencing the same thing.

Building a business, creating their product, posting their links on social media. Getting caught in the cycle of constant link-sharing and discount pushing in an attempt to chase sales out of desperation. Only to end up closing down after burning too much time, energy, and money on a “strategy” that was never going to work in the first place.

THAT is exactly why it is so important to take the time to properly connect with people.

Especially on SOCIAL media. It is an opportunity to create these connections without being tied to your geographic location. A chance to expand your reach beyond a local craft fair or farmers market.
